Back to Basics (Kicks)

In this post, we have videos of our 6 basic kicks, showing you what it should be like. The videos have instructions on what you should be looking out for as well. Watch the videos before you practice, and if you can take videos of yourself and look back at them.


Before you practice, do not forget to (1) WARM UP, (2) STRETCH, and (3) make sure you have ENOUGH SPACE to kick.


 

Front Kick 正踢腿 -

  1. Kick straight up, try to kick your head.

  2. Body and arms maintain straight, a T-shape.

  3. Standing leg should not tip-toe.







 

Outer Crescent Kick 外摆腿 -

  1. For beginner students, try to make ONE sound by slapping your foot when you swing your leg out.

  2. For yellow belts and above, make 3 sounds, CLAP - LEFT HAND - RIGHT HAND slap.

  3. Kick straight up, then kick out after you reach the highest point. Make a capital D as big as possible.


 

Inner Crescent Kick 里合腿 -

  1. Kick straight up, then kick out after you reach the highest point. Make a capital D as big as possible.

  2. Slap your hand with the sole/bottom of your shoe/feet.






 

Snap Kick and Punch 弹腿冲拳 -

  1. Punch and kick with a different hand (e.g. Kick with Right leg, Punch with Left hand).

  2. Lift up and bend your knee, then snap your foot out.

  3. Make sure your toe is pointing in front. Your feet/shoe and leg should form a straight line.

  4. Punch from the waist, straight out!



 

Thrust Kick and Push 蹬腿推掌 -

  1. Push and kick with a different hand (e.g. Kick with Right leg, Push with Left hand).

  2. Lift up and bend your knee, then thrust your foot out, focusing on your heel.

  3. Make sure your toe is pointing up. Your feet/shoe and leg should form an L-shape.

  4. Push your palm from the waist, straight out!


 

Front Slap Kick 单拍 -

  1. Your hands should be above your shoulder, the back hand slightly higher.

  2. 2 sounds as close together as possible: clap followed by slap. Make the sounds crisp, loud, and sharp! Slap your foot when it reachest the highest point.

  3. Make sure your shoe/foot and leg form a straight line, toes pointing in front, not upwards
